From what I understand, this New Sincerity differs from the surrounding contemporary strains in that instead of pretending to be ironic, it pretends to be sincere?

Well, yes and no. We are not pretending to be sincere...but the movement itself is a little ironic. We're not moving anything. We're not a force to be reckoned with. We're just living it.
